After a hugely successful and well-attended first edition last year, the ground-breaking SportsInnovation trade fair will return on March 25 and 26, 2020, bringing together key stakeholders from the worlds of sports technology, broadcasting, digital services, stadium experience, match analysis, and other specialist fields to present to a professional audience in a unique setting. The theme of the event will be ‘Meet the Future of Sports – Media – Stadium’. Organised by Messe Düsseldorf in conjunction with the DFL, Sportcast GmbH and Gold-Sponsor Deltatre, the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA in Düsseldorf will host the gathering that in 2018 drew around 1000 visitors from 21 different countries. Demonstrations and presentations from 47 exhibitors from 11 nations drew a giant thumbs up: guests of SportsInnovation 2018 gave the event an overall approval rating of 96%.
One of the major attractions last year was being able to stage matches on the pitch at the venue – home to Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf – to demonstrate the latest technological advances in action. This feature will again be at the centre of next year’s event, with four games scheduled to allow visitors from national associations, clubs, media organisations, academics and scientists to see for themselves how, for example, the latest camera technologies could enhance a television broadcast or how optical tracking solutions can improve the depth of player data capture. Some of the cameras now used in the broadcast of Bundesliga matches were first showcased at SportsInnovation 2018.
Not all of the action will take place on the pitch, however. Exhibitors will also make use of the arena’s business suites and zones to make presentations, while high-profile guest speakers will entertain visitors with insightful talks from the main stage. The fair also presents a great opportunity for people from mutually advantageous backgrounds to network and talk business. Christian Seifert, CEO of the DFL: ‘As one of the world’s leading sports leagues, the DFL continues to focus on innovation in order to actively and successfully shape the future of German football. After the great success of the first SportsInnovation 2018, we are looking forward to two days under the motto ‘Meet the Future of Sports – Media – Stadium’.’
As Gold-Sponsor, Deltatre will again be a leading partner at the event having played a pivotal role in the success of 2018. The global leader in reliable and innovative solutions for sports federations, leagues and media companies delivered memorable demonstrations on three particular aspects of their expertise: VAR technology, broadcast production from the pitch and in the stadium, and digital and direct broadcast production to consumers for fans. The Turin-based company has a history that goes back more than 30 years. During that time Deltatre has become a pioneering force in a number of sectors including data gathering and management, as well as creating digital solutions for web and mobile. Giampiero Rinaudo, CEO and co-founder of Deltatre: ‘We demonstrated our products in action to event delegates last year in an impactful showcase of the technology that we have deployed over our history of more than thirty years. We look forward to repeating the exercise next year in Düsseldorf and can’t wait to see and share what the future of sport and technology holds for all of us.’
